nanjing hotel
The facade is purposefully designed very different, with wooden louvres dominating the upper part with the individual rooms, and the lower volumes contrasted in a mineralic surface.

The 'gap' between those parts gets accentuated through the insertion of skygardens, that can be accessed, and offer a vertical connection beyond the standard elevator cores.
This hotel project in Nanjing saw two existing buildings along the long sides of the site being transformed through a new facade and minor structural changes, and a completing building on the short side added.
The concept was to react to the scale of the long existing buildings and to complete the U-shaped arrangement through the upper volume, that floats over three resting 'stones' on the ground.
Those 'stones feature differnt aspects of the hotel, like lobby, restaurant and conference center.
The green strip in the center is designed as a connecting space. Its vertical development is allowing the underground areas to be in contact with the upper floors. The desired clubhouse in the center gets equally wrapped in the green slope, so that the idea of an unobstructed park is maintained.
The facades of the existing buildings pick up a similar language as the newly built hotel, and feature a horizontal cut between the upper rooms, and the lower floors that give room to shops, SPA further meeting areas.
