The new functions get housed in a way consistent with the former building: functional boxes position themselves around the special shape of the silo. We form a unifyed exterior by using them same translucent skin around them, marking the differences purely through the play of light and shadow of their interior.

Our major intervention is a 'cut' through the silo, revealing the beauty wthing the building and forming a public space.

The cutout shape gets placed in the middle of the ocean, wrapped in a transluzent 'artcube', that can display selected works of the Tangen collection, representing the step from 'private collection' to 'art of the public'.

The art collector Norge Tangen decided to open his collection to the public, and therefor construct a new museum together with the SKM - the sorlandets kunstmuseum - and an artschool in Kristiansand, Norway.

As a site a former grainsilo and its direct environs were chosen, so that the task was equally erecting a new building, and reshaping an existing industrial compound.

The story of the silo has been one of transformations, some continuing the character of the building, some bluring it. For that reason we decided to preserve the entire silo, while reducing some of the added volumes.
